What is the Best Coffee Maker with Grinder?

With all of the different coffee brewing methods readily available choosing which one to make a great tasting coffee can be a challenge. However, I hoping in this article I will be able to convince you that making a cup of coffee from freshly ground coffee beans is the only way, and trust me when I say that once you try freshly ground coffee you won’t want anything else. Grinding my own coffee beans, is that not a lot of hard work? It isn’t as hard or as laborious as you my first think, thanks to the array of coffee makers with grinders built-in.

In this article I have researched and handpicked some of the best coffee maker with grinders I could find and for all budgets. So if you are looking for a coffee maker with grinder along with all of the bells and whistles or if you simply want a cheap machine for under $100 I’m sure there is a perfect unit for you below, so keep on reading.

Types of Grinder Built-in Coffee Makers

Before I dive in with my coffee maker recommendations I thought it would be wise to pint out the two basic types of coffee grinders. Choosing the right one can have a big impact on how your final cup of coffee tastes as well as the price of the coffee maker with grinder.

  • Burr Grinders: I far as I am concerned this type of coffee grinder is the better option. Burr grinders work by crushing coffee beans against a hard surface using a grinder wheel. However, there are two types to look for, those with conical grinder wheels (“conical burr”) and those that utilize flat grinding wheels (“wheel burr”). Typically, the wheel burr coffee grinder is more affordable but the conical type is generally the better coffee grinder mainly because they are less messy and slightly quieter.
  • Blade Grinders: if you are looking for a cheap coffee grinder this blade type is going to be your best bet. They work by cutting the coffee beans into small pieces using a spinning blade (shaped like a propeller). Blade coffee grinders are noisier than the Burr type and this is probably why they are much cheaper.

Tip: Are you looking for a cheap Burr grinder (remember they are the best type of grinder to buy) built-in to a good quality coffee maker? I can’t recommend the Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew enough. It has all of the bells and whistles and at just under $200 you really can’t go wrong with this coffee brewing combo. You can find it over at Amazon here.

In Summary: the best coffee grinders are the Burr variety, yes they are more expensive than the blade grinders but you do get what you pay for and in my opinion scrimping on a coffee grinder is something that shouldn’t be done if you love your coffee as much as I do.

Best Coffee Maker with Grinder Built-in My Recommendations

I have owned a lot of coffee makers over the years, I tend to travel a lot for long periods of time and always end up buying a new one wherever I’m at.  The best coffee maker with grinder I have found for price and quality is the Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew 12-cup automatic coffeemaker. For under $200 you really can’t go wrong with this coffee brewer and to be honest I’m a bit of a Cuisinart coffee maker fan-boy.

Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew

Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew

The Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew uses the Burr grinder which as I mentioned above is the best option for grinding your coffee beans. All it takes to make a cup of freshly ground coffee is the press one-button, the machine will then automatically grind and brew your drink to your liking strong, medium, or mild. Another smart feature which can come in handy is the 24-hour programmable feature which once set can grind and brew your coffee for you automatically for when you wake up, great for those blurry eyed Saturday mornings.

Capresso CoffeeTeam GS 10-cup Digital Coffee Maker

Another coffee maker with grinder that caught my attention when I was researching for this article was the Capresso CoffeeTeam GS 10-cup digital coffee maker. This also has the favored Burr coffee grinder but what I really like about this unit is the option to brew with or without the grinder. This is perfect if you want to use shop brought pre-ground coffee or my favorite Kicking Horse Coffee, Whole Bean.

The Capresso coffee maker also has various settings for the type of grind you prefer for example you can choose between 5 grind settings from coarse to fine as well as the brew amounts. So depending on how you like your coffee you can set this unit up so it gets it right every time.
