Love Black Coffee? You Could Be A Psychopath!

If you enjoy drinking your coffee BLACK you most likely enjoy strong flavors, take good care of yourself, or you simply want to drink coffee the way it should be drunk.

Or you could be a closet psychopath! Um... yikes.

At least, that's what a new study from the University of Innsbruck is trying to say.

They examined the taste preferences of 1,000 people and found that participants that enjoyed more bitter tasting foods like black coffee were scoring higher on a series of personality questionnaires.

Theses questionnaires assessed Machiavellianism, which is a psychology term used to describe certain personalities that are sadistic, dark, and psychopathic. If you enjoy other bitter foods such as celery, radishes or even tonic water your apparently even MORE inclined to exhibit psychopathic traits.

...So are we all closet Psychopaths?

Well it’s not all doom and gloom because those of you that enjoy adding milk or sugary creamers to your coffee tend to have more pleasant and helpful personalities.

Those of you that enjoy Starbucks unicorn frappuccinos... Well, there's no hope for you - just kidding!

So what does this mean for those of use that enjoy an extra large cup of BLACK coffee? Not much - at least not yet.

The group of participants wasn’t broad enough to draw any real conclusions, and the data gathered at the end of the day was self-reported which is a notoriously unreliable metric. With that said, researchers are hoping that this different look at the connection between personality and people's eating behavior will lead to further studies in the future.

So if your next Tinder date orders a LARGE, strong, black coffee or can’t get enough vodka tonics down her neck or reaches over for a stick of celery, well, you've been warned.
